Parhelion Creates Illusion of Three Suns Over Murmansk

Video footage shows an unusual optical effect in the sky, where three bright sun-like spots appear near the horizon, creating the impression of multiple suns visible at the same time.

The phenomenon was observed on January 31, 2026, in Murmansk, northern Russia. According to specialists, the effect is known as a parhelion, or “sun dog,” which occurs when sunlight refracts through ice crystals in the atmosphere during cold and clear weather.

Parhelions are typically seen in regions with low temperatures and high humidity. No disruptions or hazards were reported.
